UniTest Recorder — Privacy Policy

Effective date: 6 October 2026

UniTest Recorder (“the extension”) is a Chrome extension published by Uniqus. It records a browser flow that you start, together with the API calls the page makes during that flow, and sends the recording to a UniTest server so it can be turned into test cases and a Playwright test project. This policy explains what the extension collects, where that data goes, and what it never does.

1. When data is collected

The extension collects data only while you have started a recording from its side panel, and only from the tab you are recording. When no recording is active, it does not read, store or transmit anything about the pages you visit.

2. What is collected during a recording

Because the extension records what you type and the requests the page sends, a recording may contain personal information (such as a name or email address you enter) and authentication information (such as a password you type or an authorization header the page sends). Please record using test accounts and test data wherever possible.

3. Settings

The extension saves two settings in Chrome’s synced extension storage: the URL of the UniTest server you configure, and an optional recording name. These are stored by Chrome and are not sent anywhere else by the extension.

4. How the data is used

Recorded data is used for one purpose only: generating test cases and test code for the flow you recorded. It is not used for advertising, analytics, profiling, creditworthiness or lending decisions, or any purpose unrelated to test generation.

5. Where the data goes

6. Secrets and redaction

When the UniTest app turns recorded API calls into test cases, it replaces Authorization and X-API-Key headers and password-like fields with placeholder variables and drops cookies before saving anything. Generated test code never contains a recorded password; it reads credentials from environment variables instead.

7. Retention and deletion

The extension keeps nothing after a recording ends, apart from the two settings in section 3, which you can change at any time or remove by uninstalling the extension. Recordings, tests and files saved on a UniTest server are retained and deleted by whoever operates that server (usually your organisation). You can delete saved tests and files from within the UniTest app, or ask your server administrator.

8. Sharing and sale

We do not sell user data. We do not transfer user data to third parties, except to the UniTest server you configure, which is required for the extension to work.

9. Permissions

10. Children

The extension is a software-testing tool for professionals and is not directed at children under 13.
